History

James Taylor from Te Puna Wai Lodge in Nelson came up with the idea of connecting LGBT+ Hosts throughout New Zealand via a collective website. And it was Bruce Morrison of Christchurch Gaystay B&B who took the concept and ran with it in May 2004.

The philosophy was simple – set up a website where LGBT+ accommodation providers can list their guesthouse, B&B, farm stay etc and promote each other’s businesses in a collaborative way. Today, you’ll find all the accommodation listed is hosted by a member of the LGBT+ community, who will greet guests on arrival.

“You asked how it began? Bruce generously drove us to the airport, after a stay with him.  On the way I told him about the handful of gay-owned accommodation properties I was communicating with, and suggested the need for a site.  I didn’t have the time to do it, but he picked up the ball, and did a fantastic job.” - James Taylor
