Whether from the boutique guest house accommodation or from the luxury, executive style cottage self-contained accommodation, you can enjoy stunning panorama views of Tasman Bay, the Motueka River and Moutere Valleys, Kina Peninsula, Nelson and Arthur mountain ranges, and across the bay to Nelson – all while relaxing in the comfort of this newly built, custom-designed property on 25 private acres of rural beauty, over 100 metres above valley level, and almost a kilometre from our nearest neighbour.

Picture yourself waking to stunning sunrises, or coming ‘home’ at the end of a fun-filled day and relaxing with a cool drink on the deck overlooking Tasman Bay just before you sit down to enjoy your BBQ’d steak dinner and a nice glass of red wine. Or, if you prefer, spend the day in the guest house and read a book, occasionally glancing out to enjoy the view of the Motueka River Valley. 

Listen to birdsong (Bell bird, Tui, Chaffinch, Quail, and more) and watch the birdlife from the large cantilevered decks, while you enjoy a complimentary pre-dinner drink. Wish you were here? Our Accommodation Designed with your comfort as top priority, awatea Tasman Bay offers a choice of accommodation. Guest House You can stay in the Guest House in the: Bay View room – featuring expansive east-facing views over the Motueka River Valley, or the Forest View room – looking west to Mt Campbell and the Arthur mountain range Both of these rooms are located in the Guest House – a boutique style B&B, which offers you – our guest – safe, comfortable, and stylish accommodation in a newly-built, custom-designed, solid timber lodge. Breakfast is included in the tariff for these two rooms.	Guest House
The Cottage	The Cottage Alternatively, if you prefer complete privacy, then you may wish to consider: The Cottage – an executive style, luxury quality, one bedroom, self-contained, self-catering building (also newly-built, custom-designed, and made of solid timber). Breakfast is not included in the tariff for The Cottage, but is available in the Guest House each morning for a small charge. As a guest at awatea Tasman Bay, you have access to all our on-site facilities, no matter which room you choose to stay in. No smoking, please, in any of our indoor facilities and rooms.

About Us awatea (pronounced: ah wah tay ah) is Maori for daybreak, dawn, first light or sunrise. We chose this name because our bed and breakfast and self contained accommodation site is located on a hilltop situated among 25 rural acres on the western side of Tasman Bay and thus attracts the first rays of the morning sun rising over Marlborough and Nelson ranges to the east - as you can see below. Our building site has commanding views of most of the Tasman Bay area, including Nelson to the east, and the Motueka River Valley. The Arthur mountain Range, Heaphy (walking) Track and Mt. Campbell are to our west, and the area is the gateway to the pristine Abel Tasman National Park, beaches of Golden Bay and Kaiteriteri, orchards and vineyards of the Motueka River and Moutere Valleys, trout fishing on the world famous Motueka River, and a host of water activities (canoeing, kayaking, tubing, etc.). Awatea Tasman Bay is the name given to a boutique, quality bed and breakfast and self contained accommodation business which is owned and operated by three friends - Scott and John (above right, who live on site and operate the business) & Jim (below to the right of his partner Hector, both of whom live in Washington, DC) - who want to share a bit of New Zealand with their own friends around the world, as well as any other visitors who want a taste of luxury as they stay in comfortable, quality surroundings of a private, quiet, and relaxing nature, while surrounded by stunning natural beauty of mountain, river, bay, and forest.
