A Rural retreat for the discerning Gay and Lesbian traveller. Waiheke Island, Auckland
|
Kia Ora! Welcome to Kahu I Rangi.
Perched on a hilltop at the secluded end of Waiheke Island, with spectacular valley views looking back to Auckland city, Kahu I Rangi is the perfect hideaway to rest, relax and re-energise.
Built by prominent New Zealand Designer Neil Maclachlan and his Television Director Partner Greg Mayor. Kahu I Rangi was created as their dream home and now, they’re ready to share the dream.
As their guest, you’re not just another visitor to an accommodation chain – you will receive personal attention, perfectly matched to your needs.
A solid masonry courtyard home, the guesthouse is an elegant mix of shared and private spaces. Two luxuriously appointed suites take in the panoramic views of Awaawaroa Valley, over vineyards and native forest, in total privacy.
Only a half hour ferry ride from downtown Auckland city, then wind your way along country roads and leave the rest of the world far behind you.
Nau mai, haere mai! Welcome to Kahu I Rangi!

Luxuriate under the Down bed comforters, with feather pillows and crisp white linen in the Blue Room which is furnished with French mid century double bed and armoire suite, or the Red Room with the choice of a King-size bed or two King Singles.
Each of the guest suites has it’s own private ensuite bathroom, television and DVD player. For larger groups there is also a twin room, sharing the Red Room Bathroom.
Wi-Fi Internet is freely available throughout the whole house.
Enjoy the living wing and make use of the library and beautiful Grand Piano.
Waiheke boasts great dining options. Ranging from Fine Dining to Casual Café/Bistro, there’s something to suit all tastes and occasions.
Dinners in house with your hosts can also be arranged for $100 per person. Four courses matched with locally produced Waiheke Wines.
Greg is an outstanding chef and more than happy to design an evening menu with your dietary requirements in mind.
We don’t require a two night minimum booking, but to take full advantage of what’s on offer on Waiheke Island, we do recommend two nights, leaving a full day to play and explore!
Check in and check out times are flexible – let’s talk about it, and see what suits your plans.

Directions:
To fully enjoy all Waiheke Island has to offer we recommend a rental car. All rental car companies on the Island operate drop off and pick up from the Matiatia passenger wharf, or other wharfs and airfield by arrangement.
From Matiatia Passenger Wharf:
The road from the Wharf, although going through a number of name changes, basically is the main road from one side of the island to the other.
Stay on the main road following signage to Onetangi Beach.
After passing the Shell Service station on your left as you approach Onetangi Beach, take a right turn into Waiheke Rd.
Waiheke Rd is the main route to the eastern end of Waiheke. Follow the signage to Orapiu over the hills. Once at the bottom, look for signage saying Stony Batter and Orapiu.
Veer right following the Orapiu sign. Around 200 metres on from this sign turn right into Awaawaroa Rd.
Follow this gravel road for 2kms. On you left will be the only sealed driveway, take this to the very top of the ridge where you will find Kahu I Rangi and someone to greet you with a cold drink!
From Kennedy Point Vehicular Ferry Wharf:
Follow the road out from the wharf. At the roundabout, turn right and follow the signage to Onetangi as above.
