Taha Awa

Just an hour outside the capital city of Wellington lies Wairarapa wine country – a major tourist destination and one you shouldn't miss if you're in the Wellington region.

Taha Awa is a homey bed and breakfast nestled in a valley only 5 minutes by car from the shops and restaurants of Martinborough's charming wine village. The house overlooks our 20 acres, where sheep and cattle graze and an olive grove beckons. 

Imagine Brokeback Mountain, but with vineyards nearby.

During your stay you can choose to relax on our property or take in the local attractions. We're on the Classic NZ Wine Trail and there are boutique vineyards and olive groves to visit at every turn. 
You can also visit Pukaha Mount Bruce National Wildlife Centre, Tararua Forest Park, the Wairarapa Art Trail, the bizarre and fun 'Stonehenge Aotearoa,' the pleasant nearby village of Greytown (called 'Gaytown' by some), or drive out to the rugged Wairarapa coastline and visit the seals, Cape Palliser Lighthouse, Castlepoint, or the pub at Lake Ferry. 

If you need to be pampered after all that, you can enjoy the local spas for a beauty treatment and massage.

'Taha Awa’ means ‘riverside’ and no visit here is complete until you’ve strolled through our olive grove, out the back gate, and down to the trout stream at our boundary. Pack a picnic and make an afternoon of it, and be sure to bring your favourite Martinborough wine along.

After you’ve seen the beautiful trees in the olive grove, you might want to purchase some of our oil to take with you as a souvenir. The mix of Frantoio and Leccino provides fresh, grassy taste with a strong peppery finish. It’s a perfect way to remember the tranquility and beauty of Taha Awa long after you’ve left.
